Furnace Repair, Cost & Maintenance FAQ

  • Is D's Air & Heating an authorized Lennox dealer?

Yes. We're an authorized Lennox dealer, which means Lennox has certified us to sell, install, and service their equipment with full manufacturer backing behind it. We're also authorized to sell and service Carrier and Green equipment, and we've served Chicago and the surrounding suburbs since 2009. Learn more about our Lennox dealer status.

  • Why is my furnace blowing cold air instead of heat?

This is often a dirty filter, a pilot light or ignition problem, or a thermostat set to the wrong mode. It can also mean the furnace is overheating and shutting the burners off for safety. If cold air keeps happening, book a furnace repair and we'll track down the actual cause.

  • Why does my furnace keep turning on and off (short cycling)?

Short cycling is usually a sign of a clogged filter, a furnace that's too large for the space, or a failing sensor. Left alone, it puts extra wear on the system and can turn into a bigger repair. Our technicians can catch it during a furnace service visit or a repair call.

  • Why is my furnace making a loud banging or rattling noise?

A bang at startup can point to delayed ignition, while ongoing rattling often means a loose panel or a blower motor issue. Furnace noises rarely fix themselves and are worth having checked before they turn into a no-heat situation. Schedule a repair and we'll take a look.

  • Why did my energy bill go up even though my furnace hasn't changed?

An aging furnace, a dirty filter, or a system that's no longer running efficiently can all drive up your bill with no obvious sign of a problem. A yearly tune-up usually catches this before it gets expensive. Book a furnace service visit to have it checked.

  • How often should a furnace be serviced?

We recommend a professional tune-up once a year, ideally in early fall before heating season starts. Our maintenance agreement includes this visit at a discounted rate for members. See maintenance agreement details.

  • How much does furnace installation cost in Chicago?

It depends on the size of the furnace, its efficiency rating, and your home's existing ductwork, so cost varies from house to house. We'll give you a free, itemized estimate before any work begins, and financing is available if you qualify. Book your free estimate.

  • What should I do if my furnace stops working in winter?

Call us or book online right away. A furnace that won't turn on or won't heat is an emergency, and we treat it like one. Our EPA certified technicians will diagnose the issue and recommend the most cost-effective fix.
